ONLINE ABACUS CLASSES LIVE WITH A TEACHER OR IN-PERSON IN OUR CLASSROOM. WHAT SUITS YOUR FAMILY?
We are pleased to inform you that students of all Abacus levels can now chose and enroll in 100% online Abacus classes or in person.
Online Abacus classes are not new to our JAMS teachers. We’ve been offering classes to students at a national level for two years now. And that allowed us to quickly extend the offer to all students as soon as COVID happened.
Online Abacus classes are now a permanent offering. Students receive their materials and book by mail and get full access to our Abacutor App through iPads.
All students must have a functioning camera and a microphone on their computers.
The Student-Teacher ratio for online classes is 3 to 6 students per teacher in a group.
For parents who are choosing in-person classes, we strongly suggest you reading our COVID GUIDELINES and learn what measures we are taking to keep our teachers and students safe.
ABOUT ABACUS IN-PERSON OR ONLINE CLASSES & CAMPS
TERMS
The JAMS program is a continuous year-round program. JAMS conducts lessons in a group setting but individual progress varies. The student’s progress also needs parental support by maintaining a consistent study schedule at home. Each student learns at his/her own pace but teachers are keeping an eye on each student’s progress on a weekly basis. Other than the regular JAMS classroom session, it is recommended that the child do 10-15 minutes of Abacus exercises every day, 5 days a week.
We have 3 terms per year:
- Fall Term (September to December)
- Winter Term (January to March)
- Spring Term (April to June)
Each term consists of 11 weeks of instruction. An exam will be administered in week 11. Results will be posted or emailed when available. Week 12 is reserved for all make-up classes ONLY. No regular classes will be held during this time.
We also offer Abacus Winter Camp and Abacus Summer Camp. Camps are 100% online and can be taken from anywhere. That gives our students and parents the flexibility to enjoy travels.
ABACUS SUMMER BOOTCAMP – ONLINE, LIVE WITH A TEACHER
Most JAMS parents consider traveling with their kids an opportunity to provide a new learning experience. Our Summer Camps are online. Classes are live with a teacher, and our parents appreciate the flexibility of classes taken from anywhere.
Summer Bootcamp has 8 weeks of instruction. Beginner students will meet on Zoom twice a week and will be given 15 minutes of homework daily. Classes are semi-private, live with a teacher, and 3 to 5 students per class.
Our Bootcamp is very popular. On week #3 you will see your child developing a love relationship with numbers and even starting to calculate one-digit multiple numbers at a time extremely fast and accurate. And after only 8 weeks of instruction, your child will be able to add and subtract multiple numbers at a time, faster than a calculator. From then on, if your child decides to continue on the path, it will be a much easier transition to our regular classes and introduction of other operations such as multiplication, division, decimals, fractions, square roots, and so forth and so on.
Some parents describe it as “Magic”. We describe it as dedication, hard work, perseverance, and focus.
It doesn’t matter if your child can’t focus on academics. During our program, he/she will! Our 45-minute classes are constantly “busy” and engaging. Your child will be making the most out of that time with the teacher.
Requirements for this class: Soroban Abacus provided to your child, pencil, workbooks provided to your child, computer with camera and microphone.
An exam will be administered in week 8. Results will be posted or emailed when available.

ABACUS WINTER CAMP
In addition to regular terms, we offer a Winter Camp, subject to availability and weather conditions. Registration and dates for Winter Camp will be announced at the end of Fall Term.
